Our look at the 1987 range of Generation 1 Transformers continues this week with the three basic Decepticon Headmasters Skullcruncher, Mindwipe and Weirdwolf. While the Autobot Headmasters introduced in the same year were land and air vehicles, the Decepticon counterparts were beasts. 1987 also saw the release of Decepticon Headmaster base Scorponok and Headmaster Horrorcons Apeface and Snapdragon, but we will cover those three in a future article. The plan was originally to release four basic Decepticon Headmasters to face off against the Autobots, but plans for the stingray Decepticon Headmaster were canned. Here then is our look at Skullcruncher the crocodile with Headmaster Grax, Weirdwolf the wolf with Nebulon partner Monzo, and Mindwipe the bat with Headmaster partner Vorath.

When I was a child, I never had those robots because I prefered the transformations into vehicles than animals, so I bought the Headmasters Autobots ^^

Today, I continue to prefer vehicles transformations, but I must admit that those beasts are interesting !

Maybe one day if I found good opportunites !

I love the powermaster, the headmaster and the targetmaster.
But I wish they could do this thing again with better sculpt/transformation Transformers.
For the animals, it reminds me of the dinobot but in flashy colors, dinobots are really nailed it because of the chrome/gold/transparence thing.

Well, for me all the Transformers post-animated movie have these problems.

Time have changed since the first wave from Diaclone toy line, and the TF made after the movie (and for the movie) are more simple, all in plastic, with often flashies colors.

Sure, most of them have also something cool (like the "masters" concept), but quality of materials and choice of colors are less good than the first G1-Diaclone toys to my point of view.

The G2 toy line was in continuity in term of horrible colors and simplifications... Mad

Agreed ! Very Happy

I remember finding G2 kind of horrible except for some, like laser rods, cool feature but cheap plastic.
It was sacrilege for me to see some G1 repaint in the G2 line.
